NIGERIA DOMINATE 200M MEN EVENT

Nigeria emerged superior in the 200m men’s event at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Games winning both gold and silver.    

Tamunotoye Briggs won the race at 21.44 whilst compatriot Jonathan Nmaju won silver at 21.55.    

Local favourite Emmanuel Dasor managed bronze with a time of 21.73 whilst colleague David Amoo-Mends finished a distance fourth at 21.73.Read More Meanwhile Ghana shrugged off stiff opposition to win the 4x400 men’s gold, putting up a thrilling performance that got the partisan crowd chanting.     The quartet; Ampem Kojo Tuffuor, John O’Brien, Daniel Gyasi and Collins Mensah lived up to billing finishing the race at a time of 3:12:22s, leaving the Nigerian team, Charles Ebelebe, Chukuwa Madunta, Promise Anosike and Abbas Abubakar to settle for silver with a time of 3:13:04.    

Mali placed third on 3:18:50s with a team made up of Mabuku Damile, Jakariya Bamba, Amadou Kayantao and Adama Bagayoko.  

In the women’s 4x400, Nigeria made amends by scooping gold with fine display from quartet of Oladoye Funke, Osaze Rita, Nwuakwe Nkiru and Ibinose Isoken who finished the race ahead of the Ghanaian team -Ruth Marfo, Adelaide Nkrumah, Happy Abruwah and Doreen Adjei placed second.     Sierra Leone grabbed bronze to improve their ranking
